She has a 35+ year history working with nonprofit, faith-based and arts organizations. Education: academic studies in visual arts, art history & indigenous art, with BA in anthropology at Cornell University (Ithaca), Columbia University (NYC), Carol was previously the Director of the Kellogg Family Foundation Project at M-DC and the Executive Director of Miami Urban Ministries. Carol also has Masters in Theology, and a PhD in Sociology (race & ethnicity), all of which help inform the cross-cultural and diversity vision of programming at the
Lloyd Reshard Jr. Board Member, Interim Executive Director and Program DirectorOpera trained vocalist by trade, Lloyd will be continuing to take over primary duties from the Founding Director, Carol Hoffman-Guzman as ASJ restructures for innovative programming, organizational logistics and development. As Executive Director, Lloyd writes grants, networking and developing relationships, refining ASJ logistics, marketing, programming and educational development. As Program Director, he will solely be in charge of scheduling and contracting artists and events throughout the season that are in line with the mission and vision of ASJ along with making sure Artist are paid

Ken Whiting Board Member, Lighting & Sound CoordinatorASJ wouldn’t run as smoothly nor would the performances be as great if it weren’t for the volunteer commitment from Mr. Whiting. In addition to opening and closing for events he also runs lighting and contributes invaluable knowledge to the presentation of events as well as set design, building and function. Ken has worked at Vizcaya Museum & Gardens since 1979 as maintenance mechanic. Ken’s job is to repair, maintain, install electrical, plumbing, pumps, air conditioning, lighting, generators, sound systems, electric & lighting for events etc. Vizcaya has a 23-rank 3-manual Welte pipe organ with roll player, which he also helps maintain.
Lina Maria Bareno – Brand and Marketing Strategist – Lina Bareno (Marketing Coordinator, ASJ Board Member) – Recent Graduate of Miami Universities Art Institute, Lina is responsible for all ASJ marketing, branding, and designs. She has shown great skill in designing the ASJ website, new and fresh Logo, as well as creating innovative marketing strategies to increase ticket sales. She also is an active board member always finding ways to raise funds and tap into resources previously unknown.
David da Silva Cornell Board Secretary AttorneyDavid da Silva Cornell is a Miami-based attorneywho practices corporate, international, and nonprofit law. Over the past decade he has been involved with a number of LGBT and faith-related organizations and causes, including current service on the board of Gay American Heroes Foundation and previous service on the boards of Equality Florida Action PAC and the Gay and Lesbian Victory Fund. David received his B.A. and two Master of Arts degrees from Yale University and holds a joint J.D./M.S.F.S. degree from Georgetown University Law Center and School of Foreign Service.

Jenni Person Board Member, Artistic Director of the Open Tent. Founding Director Guava Rugelach FestivalJenni Person has worked as an award-winning performer; Producing Director of the Loft Theatre in Tampa, FL; Director of Programming at the South Florida Art Center; Education Director at the Florida Philharmonic; Co-Director of Alternate ROOTS, a national artists’ organization based in Atlanta, GA and as Assistant Director of the Southern California District of the Workmen’s Circle/Arbeter Ring. Currently, she serves as Founding Artistic Director of Arts Inside The Open Tent, Founder and Director of The Guava Rugelach Festival: Tropical Jewish Sound, and Coordinator of The PJ Library for The Greater Miami Jewish Federation. Current volunteer leadership commitments include service on the Boards of Directors of the Arts & Business Council Miami and Arts at St. Johns as well as the Advisory Board of The International Jewish Presenters Association. Additionally, Jenni and partner Chaim LieberPerson, a Jewish educator, implement several informal and alternative Jewish education and community-building programs including the Sandbox community, Poetry as Prayer, Culinary Midrash, and Torah Tykes an alternative family Shabbat and holiday worship program with their own little kids, Goldi Shalom and Izzi Dov. Jenni is currently working on an MFA in Interdisciplinary Arts at Goddard College.

Carla Mickley Board Member Sales; Volunteer Coordinator and SupervisorMary Kay CosmeticsCarla, is responsible for making sure our events are ushered and run smoothly. From Concessions to parking, she makes sure adequate and qualified volunteers can park, greet, and assist patrons in whatever their needs may be. In addition she also trains new volunteers to with efficiency and adds innovative ideas for to the board and program directors for future events at ASJ.
Nestor Zurita Board Member Founder of Music without BordersBorn in New York and raised in Quito, NZ started to play the saxophone at age 15, and at 17 was part of the “University of Montana” Big Band. Studied at “Miami Dade College”, “Manhattan School of Music” and “The New School Jazz”. His teachers include Bobby Watson and Steve Slagel. Nestor has played concerts in the United States, Europe, and South America playing hundreds of concerts in a wide variety of styles. As a Composer, he has written hundreds of works. Once the Director of the Jazz Department and of the Classical Saxophone Program in the National Conservatory of Ecuador, Nestor now leads his “Latin Jazz Ensemble” and has founded his own arts organization Music Without Borders.
